Embracing Comfort and Sustainability: The Benefits and Care of Baby Bamboo Clothes
At Joss + J we love our bamboo, and we know you do too. When it comes to dressing our little ones, comfort and sustainability are most important. Enter the world of baby bamboo clothes – a delightful choice for both your baby's well-being and the environment. Bamboo fabric is renowned for its softness, breathability, and hypoallergenic properties, making it ideal for delicate baby skin. Unlike conventional fabrics, bamboo is grown without the use of harmful pesticides and fertilizers, making it an eco-friendly option. Let's dive into the benefits of baby bamboo clothes and learn how to care for them to ensure they stay as cozy and beautiful as the day you brought them home.
The Benefits of Baby Bamboo Clothes offer a multitude of advantages that go beyond comfort. The naturally moisture-wicking properties of bamboo fabric help regulate body temperature, keeping your little one cool and dry, especially during those warmer months. Bamboo fabric is also breathable, allowing air to circulate freely, which helps prevent skin irritations and rashes. Even better, bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial, making it an excellent choice for babies with sensitive skin or allergies. By choosing baby bamboo clothes, you're providing your little one with a safe, gentle, and cozy wardrobe that supports their overall well-being.
Laundry is not usually a fun time. Sometimes, you know what stains are waiting for you and sometimes you pick up a piece of clothing and find a horrible surprise. If a spaghetti dinner becomes a statement piece on your little one’s bamboo clothing, washing your bamboo goodies should not be difficult nor be something you’ll be dreading to do. Your bamboo items are easier to care for than you think. Our team has gathered advice from our amazing owner, Aimee Barro, our community, and did extensive research on what we found to work best.
Best natural laundry detergents for you and your little one
Certain laundry detergents can be agitating towards your skin and even the environment. We've found it best to lean towards more natural detergents that are just as effective and safer in your household. Here are a few that we have found to be highly recommended but please make sure to find the best detergent for your family :
- Biokleen Natural Laundry Liquid Detergent
- ECOS Laundry Liquid Detergent
- Seventh Generation Concentrated Laundry Detergent
Steps in washing your bamboo clothing
First things first, make sure that your bamboo clothing is turned inside out with all zippers zipped all the way up on the sleepers. This will help lessen the color fading on the fabrics and ensure the zipper does not snag or break in the wash.
Ensure that the laundry is properly separated - do not wash your bamboo clothing with towels, items with velcro or unzipped zippers. We do not want any of your bamboo clothing pilling or tearing after the wash.
Set your washing machine to a cold/cold cycle and on a gentle/delicate cycle which will prevent agitating the bamboo material.
Always run an extra rinse cycle to remove all extra moisture in your bamboo clothing along with any extra detergent. Removing that extra moisture and detergent can prevent your bamboo clothing from getting that “crunchy” feeling and irritating you and your little babe’s skin.
Fight off those pesky stains
We found a couple good ways to get rid of those tough stains! First, make sure to use a natural stain remover to prevent skin irritation. Then you’ll want to apply the stain remover and let it soak in as long as possible. Some people like to leave it on overnight before throwing it in the wash.
We’ve also found that leaving the stain remover on and letting your bamboo item sit in the sun for a couple hours is also very popular amongst the bamboo community and is an effective way to get rid of those stains. Remember not to leave it in the sun for too long as it could result in discoloration or fading of the fabric.
After wash care
Once your clothing is finished in the washing machine, it is best to hang dry your clothes to keep it in the best condition. We do not recommend placing it on a hanger when wet because it can catch easier on the clothing when wet and develop tears in the neckline. It is best to hang your bamboo clothing over a drying rack or clothing line.
Do not leave any bamboo clothing in a laundry basket when wet - this can create mold and mildew development on the bamboo clothing which could then transfer onto other items of clothing.
